Percutaneous laser valvotomy with balloon dilatation of the pulmonary valve as primary treatment for pulmonary atresia.

چکیده
A neonate with pulmonary atresia and an intact ventricular septum with a tripartite right ventricle was successfully treated by percutaneous balloon dilatation of the pulmonary valve. This was facilitated by previous laser valvotomy with a hot tip Trimedyne laser wire. There were no major complications. Four weeks later the patient was discharged home on no medication with peripheral oxygen saturations of 70% in air.

OBJECTIVE We compared the result of radiofrequency (RF)-assisted valvotomy and balloon dilation with closed surgical valvotomy and Blalock Taussig (BT) shunt as primary treatment in selected patients with pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum (PA-IVS). BACKGROUND Patients with PA-IVS who have mild to moderate hypoplasia of the right ventricle (RV) and patent infundibulum have the gr...

OBJECTIVES Percutaneous balloon valvotomy was studied retrospectively in newborns with critical pulmonary valve stenosis or atresia to assess its potential role as an alternative therapy to operation. BACKGROUND Severe right ventricular outflow tract obstructions are life-threatening conditions requiring prostaglandin infusion immediately after birth and then relief of the valvular obstructio...
متن کاملPercutaneous balloon valvotomy in pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum: impact on patient care.
BACKGROUND Pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PA-IVS) is a rare congenital lesion with high mortality. Therapy was exclusively surgical until recently, when the use of radiofrequency-assisted perforation of the atretic valve was introduced as a treatment option. This study analyzes the outcomes and morphological changes to right heart structures after percutaneous perforation and...
متن کاملUse of a telescopic system for transcatheter radiofrequency perforation and balloon valvotomy in infants with pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum.
BACKGROUND Pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum is a complex congenital heart disease with great morphological variability. Approximately two-thirds of patients may be suitable for transcatheter pulmonary valvotomy. We reviewed our experience in the use of two different percutaneous approaches to evaluate the impact on fluoroscopy time and morbidity of a new technique to perform tran...
